In March, CTC-RI hosted the 2nd Task Force on Primary Care Workforce Development. The meeting has representation from the primary care training colleges and universities that train physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants (e.g., Brown University, University of Rhode Island, Salve Regina College, and Johnson and Wales).

We asked Jon Dooley, MD FAAP, a pediatrician at St. Joseph Health Center - Pediatric Clinic to share his insight after participating in CTC-RI's 12-month learning collaborative on pediatric weight management, funded by Tufts Health Plan. The project aimed to help practices become better equipped to intervene and positively impact children with weight management concerns.
The Care + Community + Equity (CCE) program hosted a Best Practice Sharing meeting in March with 31 participants attending. Albert Whitaker, American Heart Association (AHA) Community Impact Director, presented on the AHA Initiatives, discussing 2023 deadlines and updates. We also heard great presentations from each of the 7 CCE practices, who discussed their quality improvement plans.
CTC-RI hosts a monthly opportunity to have a casual Zoom conversation with our Integrated Behavioral Health (IBH) practice facilitators, Dr. Liz Cantor and Dr. Kristin David. We have multiple participants who attend monthly, and this is a chance for IBH clinicians (Psychologists, Therapists, Social Workers, and Nurses) to connect with other IBH professionals.
CTC-RI is excited to announce a funding and training opportunity to increase pediatric integrated behavioral health (IBH) capacity in RI for up to 8 RI-based practices. This project aims to increase the capacity of RI pediatric providers and IBH programs by training Community Health Workers (CHWs) in behavioral health care coordination and providing support to a practice’s IBH team.
CTC-RI launched a new Project ECHO® Program series in March: “Approaches to Dementia Care: Building Blocks for Becoming Age-Friendly”. Congratulations to the practices that are participating in the Year 2 Medicaid Pediatric Healthcare Recovery Program who continue to demonstrate continued improvement in improving child health as demonstrated with increased childhood immunizations and lead screenings rates.
CTC-RI offered the GLearn Nurse Care Manager Core Curriculum for the fifth time this year. Nineteen learners representing thirteen different practices from across the state completed this year’s program.
