Task Force on Primary Care Workforce Development
In March, CTC-RI hosted the 2nd Task Force on Primary Care Workforce Development. The meeting has representation from the primary care training colleges and universities that train physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants (e.g., Brown University, University of Rhode Island, Salve Regina College, and Johnson and Wales). The meeting facilitated by Jeff Borkan, MD reviewed survey results that ranked importance of a range of primary care work force issues and the feasibility of potential solutions. CTC-RI also reported on the submission of a grant application to support the development of enhanced and new clinical training sites for primary care trainees, develop curriculum, and training in interdisciplinary, team-based care. The Task Force agreed to continue to meet monthly to develop a statewide primary care strategic plan.
