Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) is the use of FDA-approved medications, in combination with counseling and behavioral therapies, to provide a "whole-patient" approach to the treatment of substance use disorders. Buprenorphine, methadone and naltrexone are considered evidence-based treatment approaches.
