March Nurse Care Manager / Care Coordinator (NCM/CC) Best Practice Sharing Meeting
Over 60 nurse care managers / care coordinators participated in the March 16 educational program sponsored by the RI Geriatric Education Center, “Behaviors: The Good, Bad and How to Support Creative Interventions”. Kelly McCarthy, dementia care expert and author of “Brass Ring Memoirs” discussed non-pharmacological approaches in supporting individuals who exhibit behaviors that manifest as need or distress. Attendees earned nursing CEU’s and learned how to support caregivers through use of tools such as behavioral maps and step-by-step intervention plans. Terry Fogarty and Athena Lavoie with the Alzheimer’s Disease Memory Disorder Center (RIH) presented on Alzheimer’s Research in RI and recruitment opportunities for clinical trials. The presentations, handouts and resources were shared.
