CTC-RI Hosts Community Health Worker/Medical Assistant Core Asthma Training Program

  • 10 Feb 2025

CTC-RI is excited to announce that we received 35 complete applications in response to our  “Call for Applications” for the CHW/MA Asthma Basics Training, hosted on February 5, 2025, and February 13, 2025. Out of the 35 applicants, 15 community health workers, medical assistants, and patient care navigators were selected from across Rhode Island. These individuals represent a variety of organizations, including pediatric practices, community-based organizations, and healthcare systems.[SC1]

The lead faculty for this training is June Tourangeau, LPN/AE-C, Certified Asthma Educator, and Asthma Education Consultant at Care Transformation Collaborative-RI. June brings a wealth of experience, having previously worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital and as a Certified Asthma Educator, working closely with families in the community. The Asthma Education Program for Community Health Workers, developed by the Association of Asthma Educators (AAE), covers five core modules: the scope of asthma, triggers and environmental control, medications, medication delivery devices, and assessment and monitoring.

CTC-RI will host Asthma Home Visitor training for participants in the February cohort in April 2025. Due to high demand, CTC will host a second cohort of Community Health Worker/Medical Assistant Core Asthma in May to accommodate the remaining applicants.

This initiative is funded by the Rhode Island Department of Health.
