Improving Pediatric Immunization and Lead Screening

  • 03 Aug 2020

CTC-RI/PCMH Kids formed an immunization planning committee including practice facilitators, KIDSNET, RIDOH (immunization improvement and lead screening), Blue Cross and Blue Shield of RI, and systems of care practice facilitators to develop an action plan for improving pediatric immunization and lead screening rates in Rhode Island.

By supporting our practices that provide care for children and adolescents as they reopen and develop strategies to encourage parents to return to regular care, more children can obtain important well-care, like immunizations and screenings. One strategy has been for practices to reach out directly to parents to learn of potential concerns and solutions for getting back in the door. Providence Community Health Center provided a snapshot of the feedback they received from parents at the July committee planning meeting which will help inform their immunization action plan.

PCMH Kids practices will be asked to report on lead screening rates and were provided with information on the OHIC updated measurement specifications. The RI Department of Health Lead Screening Program provided resource information using point of care testing to improve lead screening rates.
